Earthquakes in California, Alaska and Utah in the last 24 hours… What is going on?

[amprotect=nonmember]It’s no secret that the Earth is constantly changing- continents shift over time, lakes and rivers dry up or change course.  Some of those changes happen because of earthquakes, which many people believe are happening at an increasing rate.

It’s no secret that the Earth is constantly changing- continents shift over time, lakes and rivers dry up or change course.  Some of those changes happen because of earthquakes, which many people believe are happening at an increasing rate.

There was another earthquake in Utah today, just a day after a 5.4 magnitude Earthquake struck Southern California and a 5.0 magnitude quake hit Alaska.

Today’s quake in southern Utah measured a preliminary 3.3 magnitude- enough to rattle nerves but not enough to cause major damage.

Despite the Alaskan tremor’s proximity to Anchorage, no damage was reported.  The California quake was a different beast.

It toppled wine bottles at hotel resorts and even stopped rides at Disneyland.  Folks in Palm Springs close to the epicenter said it was the biggest shaker they’ve felt in years.

Now seismologists say that yesterday’s California earthquake is related to the Easter Sunday 7.2 magnitude tremor in Mexico.

Researchers say since April’s deadly quake, there’s been increased pressure along the San Jacinto fault zone.

So just how many more quakes has the area experienced in the last few months?

More than 5,000 aftershocks… so far!

Experts warn that aftershocks can be felt for years after a major quake, but many are hoping that yesterday’s quake will ease some of the tension on the fault lines in the area.

So are we really experiencing more earthquakes than usual?  Is this just an Earth adjustment or a sign of what’s to come?

Only time will tell.
